The 2007 ACPA/NASPA Joint Meeting offers an unprecedented opportunity to experience the best of the student affairs community and our Associations. The Joint Meeting Committee is focused on creating a professional development experience second to none - a time to renew our commitment to students and their success, take stock of our impact on higher education and engage in renewing and memorable discourse with colleagues.

Schedule Highlights

The meeting officially opens Sunday evening, April 1st and closes mid-day, Wednesday, April 4th. The Placement & Career Center will open on Friday evening, March 30th and will be fully operational beginning Saturday, March 31st.

What are the Joint Meeting hotels?

The 2007 Joint Meeting will take place at two properties: the Gaylord Palms Resort and the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort, both of which offer a unique combination of meeting facilities and resort amenities. A shuttle will transport attendees between the two hotels; travel time between the hotels is approximately 10 minutes.

How early can I book my hotel?:

Joint Meeting and hotel reservations open Monday, October 30, 2006. You must be registered for the Joint Meeting in order to reserve a hotel room in the Joint Meeting block. Hotel reservations can only be made on line.

I want to extend my stay - what are the effective dates for the Joint Meeting rate?:

The Joint Meeting rates are good for three days prior to and three days after the Joint Meeting begins based on availability, March 28 - April 7.

Is there a primary hotel?:

No. Joint Meeting educational sessions, speakers and special events will be split between the two properties. Placement will take place in the Gaylord Palms; the Exhibit Hall will be located in the Marriott. ACPA and NASPA suites will be in both locations. Suites will be assigned prior to the opening of Joint Meeting/Hotel registration on October 30th.

Note: The Joint Meeting will not utilize the Orlando Convention Center; the Convention Center is in a different part of Orlando.

When can I make a request for a special meeting or reception?:

Requests for meeting and reception space will accepted beginning June 2006 through November 30, 2006. Please check the Meetings/Receptions link on the web for additional information.

What services for children will be available to Joint Meeting attendees?:

Joint Meeting attendees are encouraged to utilize childcare services available through the Joint Meeting hotels.

How many attendees are expected?:

We anticipate 7,000 colleagues will attend the Joint Meeting. While this may seem large in comparison to Association annual meetings, we believe the resort venue will create an atmosphere conducive to learning, connecting and interacting.

Will there be vacation/tour packages for attendees?:

Given the strength of Orlando's tourism industry and the discounts that can be obtained from a variety of sources, the Joint Meeting Committee will not be arranging special tours. The Joint Meeting website will provide useful links to Orlando visitor guides as well as top destinations and attractions.

Do the hotels provide special attraction packages and/or tickets for guests?:

Tickets to Orlando attractions are available for purchase at both properties.

I noticed that the Joint Meeting dates fall during Passover and Palm Sunday. What arrangements are being made to address this? :

The 2007 Joint Meeting Committee is formulating plans to address this programmatically and will marshal the creativity and sensitivity of the Joint Committee in doing so. Suggestions are welcome; please contact Jonathan Poullard, Special Events Chair, poullard@berkeley.edu

How close are the Gaylord Palms and Marriott World Center to Walt Disney World and other attractions? Is transportation available? :

The hotels are within 15 minutes of the Walt Disney World theme parks. The Gaylord Palms has a complimentary shuttle to Walt Disney World; the Marriott offers complimentary shuttles to Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, CityWalk, SeaWorld, Discovery Cove and Wet 'N Wild. At both properties, shuttles are available for a nominal fee to attractions not served by the complimentary shuttles.

Are airline discounts being offered? What is the easiest way to get from the airport to the hotels? :

There are no airline contracts for the Joint Meeting. The hotels are both within 20 miles of Orlando International Airport. Round trip airport shuttle service through Mears Transportation is $ 30/person round trip for both properties.

Are car rental facilities available through the hotels? :

Car rental facilities are available at both resorts. For additional information, please check the hotel websites.

I plan to stay at another Orlando property; is there transportation to the Joint Meeting hotels? Is parking available? :

Public transportation is not available to the Joint Meeting hotels, although we will operate a shuttle between the properties for Joint Meeting attendees. Self-parking is available; current prices are $ 8.00/day (Marriott); $ 10.70 (Gaylord Palms).
